First!


This is the first devlog post for Fatalspace on itch.io. Yay!

So far I've got the controls, inventory, and some things to shoot at. Right now, energy is used for everything, but I plan on having a ship replicator like crafting. You've got a main pew and bombs. Shields and braking as well as 4-way thrusters with different thrust strengths. The flight mechanics are pretty fun so far. It's a big game of asteroids with two collectibles: power crystals and minerals. Power crystals help to power your ship's energy. Minerals are used by your ship's nanites to repair the hull. Of course, these will be things you can sell to shops. There is a chance that a mob will pop out of asteroids. It's an energy-absorbing creature, so energy weapons will only make things worse. If you have any questions or problems let me know.

As for the future of the game, things should be happening pretty often. Next, I need to work on getting the mechanics shop up, which will be using the cinematic mechanics when you land your ship at bases or larger ships. I'm planning on having missions for asteroids, enemy ships, escorting, and collection. Rescue missions will be later and part of the storyline.

One thing I'd like to add soon is a refinery. You jettison power crystals into it so it has power and try to bump an asteroid into it. It will give you more resources than normal mining by pew or booms. I'm working on the variants of weapons available in shops as well.

If things turn out really well, I'd like to have many different machines and puzzle-like elements to keep things interesting and make it more than just an overhead shooter, including Solar Jetman like planet exploration and on-foot over-head levels, maybe a bit like Classic GTA and SmashTV inspired things with a Running Man aesthetic or something. Let's see where this goes!
