Spring is near and Godot 4.4 is a thing now!


Probably going to start the weekend with checking out what still works in QD now that Godot 4.4 is stable. Then development will resume pretty regularly now that I won't have to hide under the covers from Snow Miser.

For the game, I have to cut down the material and crafting system a lot. It's just not adding to the game. Even if I put a complex economy to support it, a trading market and more, it would just be more of the same number game. That can only be so fun and better for a stock market simulator or something. Probably sticking to 3 tiers of materials and one type of nanites with hive upgrades instead of 8 of both. 

The ship and station building setup will get some trimming too. I don't think building ships would work without making it a big deal, so I'm going to make it so you can at least use custom graphics for a ship body, and parts will connect to it based on the size and shape your sprite is made of. I like the idea of finding your ship addons, rather than crafting them always,  and either selling things for nanites or breaking it down to materials, and keeping the randomly generated roguelike things. Probably will streamline the shop and just make it something you can do without landing your ship. Though landing your ship should be a thing to switch out ships. 

This may be enough trimming down to go ahead and plan the on-foot play since the game is already a bit of a twin-stick shooter, it'll just be a slight change in controls.

Also, I'm going to spend time converting the player from Ridgid Body to CharacterBody so I can have better control of the physics. It was nice to have it done for me, but I think anything that is smart will also be a CharacterBody and that will make them have more potential as AI and Mobs. I have a drone concept that will help on a larger scale than nanites. That is probably as far as I will go with fleet mechanics. 

I guess that will be all I can say for now. A lot of refactoring going on. Thanks for reading.
